SOUL CARE:
THERAPY OF HEART, SOUL, AND MIND
The Glory of God is the Human Person, Fully Alive
I am a spiritually oriented psychotherapist, a Pastoral Psychotherapist.
I treat symptoms like depression, anxiety, marriage and family
problems thoroughly and effectively. But I don’t stop there!
In a caring therapy relationship, we work together to help you
become more fully alive, most fully the person you were
meant to be.
I have worked as a psychotherapist in New York City for over twenty years, helping people with a wide variety of problems, but I have developed a few areas of specialization. I specialize in helping people with anxiety disorders, from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), phobias and panic attacks, to milder anxieties- about performing or connecting socially. Not only are these disorders very treatable and clients get a lot of relief, but the process of moving beyond these anxieties is very meaningful for many clients.
Another specialization is helping women making life choices, putting together the unique combination of professional and family life that truly fits that unique woman. As a married woman and mother in New York City, I am deeply familiar with realities of family life in the city- like navigating the school system, for example.
As a pastoral psychotherapist I am a specialist in spiritual
and religious issues and can work with you to sort out problems
like feeling angry when you have been taught you should forgive,
or discerning what God is calling you to do in a particular situation.
I always respect your faith or tradition or if you have no particular
faith or religious tradition you identify with.
Clients come to me from many different cultures and racial backgrounds. I’ve had quite a lot of experience with Korean American couples and individuals, for example. I enjoy learning about cultures that are new to me- one of the benefits of New York life! While I work to learn as much as I can about a culture different from my own, I will also ask you questions and tell you when I do not know something from your culture.
What is my background? I was trained as a psychotherapist in a residency at the Blanton Peale Graduate Institute after getting my Master of Divinity in Psychiatry and Religion from Union Theological Seminary. I am an ordained Deacon in the United Methodist Church.
I believe therapy must be warm, caring and open- while also clinically
thorough and effective. If you’d like to start therapy,
or to find out more, call me at: 917 400-8280. Our office is on
the upper West side of Manhattan.
